The First Electric Pen
The First Electric Pen
Thomas Edison, the famous inventor in America, had created a new kind of electric pen which was entitled as the first electric motor driven appliance produced and sold in the United States and was developed as an offshoot of Edison’s telegraphy research.
Once Edison and his assistant found that when the stylus of their printing telegraph punctured the paper, the chemical solution left a mark underneath. Then an idea came into his mind. He made multiple copies by using a perforated sheet of paper as a stencil, and developed the electric pen as a perforating device. The electric pen was the key component of a complete duplicating system, which included the pen, a cast-iron holder with a wooden insert, a wet-cell battery on a cast-iron stand, and a cast-iron flatbed duplicating press with ink roller. This invention almost leads to a revolution in the field of office appliance.
